Accelerating Policy Action for Family Planning, Maternal and Newborn, and Child Health in Africa.

Funded by the Gates Foundation, the project strengthens the capacity of national and regional partners to drive sustainable policy and financing reforms in women’s, children’s, and newborn health. The project is implemented in five countries; Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Kenya, each selected for strategic opportunities to influence policy, mobilize domestic resources, and advance reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health (RMNCH) and family planning outcomes.

The SASA Alliance, grounded in the SMART advocacy approach, represents a critical step in advancing FP/MNCH outcomes by translating bold commitments into measurable impact.

Domestic Resource Mobilization

Stakeholders emphasized the urgency of sustaining FP/ MNCH funding through annual budget increases, ringfencing allocations, and adopting innovative financing mechanisms like insurance schemes and the Total Market Approach

Private Sector Engagement

Leveraging private sector resources and expertise, particularly in supply chain management, was highlighted as essential for strengthening FP/MNCH programs.

Multi-Stakeholder Coordination

Coordinated engagement of CSO networks, professional associations, religious leaders, and media practitioners is crucial for accelerating policy implementation, adoption of HIPs, and advocacy for evidence-based interventions.

Strengthening data use, media advocacy, and platforms for child-related interventions ensures policy decisions are informed, transparent, and responsive to FP/MNCH priorities.
